Description

Your students are going to be using a 3D printer… How do you keep them safe? How do you protect your printer? These 3D printing rules and safety activities will help you prepare your students for a great 3D printing experience. Your students will learn about the potential hazards of 3D printing, they’ll become familiar with 3D printing safety rules, and evaluate 3D printing scenarios for safe and unsafe behavior. Finally, they’ll take an assessment and earn their 3D printing license!

First, your students will read and analyze an informational text about the potential dangers of working with a 3D printer. Then they’ll review basic 3D printing safety rules. Next, they’ll use task cards to participate in a card sort and evaluate 3D printing scenarios for safe and unsafe behaviors. They’ll check their understanding in a color-by-number activity. Then they’ll take a 3D printing safety assessment, and earn their official 3D printing license.

This resource is perfect for preparing your students for 3D printing projects. You can use all the activities in the suggested sequence or choose the activities that best meet your classroom needs. The low-prep activities could also be used to review 3D printing safety or left for an easy STEM sub plan!
