Description
None of these adventures appear in the STEAM CLASS CURRICULUM collection--a great supplement to your class at more than 33% off individual unit prices.
Your kids will love these (part 1 of 2)! Tons of hands-on challenge and full of critical thinking—these eight units are heavily engineering and building focused with strong doses of math, physics, and topics across the curriculum. We’re not just making stuff, we’re learning physical science and math through hands-on applications and real world experiences in miniature.
The units are self-contained and each span 3 to 6 hours of classroom time. Ability level ranges from 3rd grade gifted and talented to 7th grade with 5th grade GATE most appropriate.
See the individual previews for more specific information . . .
Each unit will require materials not typically found in the classroom but easily purchased online or at your local craft store--dowels, wheels, spools, and craft sticks. Plenty of classroom materials and junk drawer items round out the materials requirements. Again, please see the preview . . .
Arctic Dogsled Design Challenge: Can you build a desktop sled to meet the challenges of the Arctic? One of my most popular lessons!
Falling Cats: Our trash bag cats always land on their feet!
Collapsible Hoop and Launcher Game: Catapult your basketball into the collapsible hoop you’ve made yourself.
Tops: Build your own top and explore math and physics with it.
Roman Polyspastos Crane: Level up with this historical building challenge. It works!
Paper Football: Ratios, fractions, proportions, and a design challenge “folded” into a cool game.
Street Lights and Desk Lamps: Students follow blueprints to build and wire a model street light and desktop lamp. You’ve got to solve a primary source mystery and solve math problems along the way to be successful.
Penny Tile: What’s the cost of tiling our kitchen floor with pennies? Math and geometry focus.
