Description

Project Based Learning unit that covers math and oral language standards and has a new fun activity every day. Written by a Project Based Learning Coordinator, this unit has kids learning with enthusiasm and gets them talking about their work thoroughly. Some teacher preparation will be needed and the added advantage: take a field trip to your school's own playground for authentic research!

This project has the essentials of a PBL unit: Need-To-Knows, collaboration, a driving question, presentations and using the Core Standards to drive the instruction.

Generate measurement data by measuring lengths of several objects to the nearest whole unit, or by making repeated measurements of the same object. Show the measurements by making a line plot, where the horizontal scale is marked off in whole-number units.
Draw a picture graph and a bar graph (with single-unit scale) to represent a data set with up to four categories. Solve simple put-together, take-apart, and compare problems using information presented in a bar graph.
