The unit begins with an overview of the Presidential election process and the laws that govern that process. It continues with a look at the history of the two primary parties; Democrats and Republicans. The unit then explores the 2008 Presidential candidates and explores the process of primaries and caucuses.
The unit includes several activities for students to apply their new learning including: Primary and Caucus Tracker, Popular Vote and Electoral Vote Tracker, United States Map for coloring in the red and blue states, Compare and Contrast Venn Diagram, Presidential Timeline, Opinion Essay, Political Position Persuasive Essay, and Design a Poster.
