The Hunger Games Movie Guide + Activities - Answer Key Inc.

This 11 page movie guide with activity handouts is for the film "The Hunger Games (2012)" Great introduction to use with a dystopian unit. This guide will also work well as a sub plan for your substitute teacher.

PART 1 – This is comprised of 2 sets of comprehension questions depending on how much of a challenge you want to give the students.

    • 50 questions in chronological order. Answer key included

    • 30 questions (20 removed from the 50 questions) in chronological order. Answer key included.

    PART 2 – Creativity

    • The first section students are to imagine one of their siblings or close friends has been chosen as tribute for their district. Students then write a diary account for days 1, 10 and 18 (the last day)

    • This section has students imagine they are running away from their district as they are terrified of being picked for the games. Students to write a supply list with reasons for each item chosen, and an escape and survival plan.

    • Students to draw a 9 scene storyboard of what they believe to be the most important parts in the movie. To include a brief description for each scene.

Based on the novel by Suzanne Collins, this movie is about a young woman named Katniss Everdeen who takes her sister's place in the Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. One boy and one girl are chosen randomly from each of the twelve districts to participate. Winning means fame and fortune. Losing means certain death.

How can movies help students learn English?

Learning from movies is motivating and enjoyable

    - Sometimes students need a change in style, and movies are generally an integral

    part of a student's life.

Movies provides authentic and varied language

    - It's always a good idea to introduce students examples of English in real

situations. This includes accents different to your own.

    Movies gives a visual context

    - This gives the student the ability to interpret the language in full visual context.

To see such visual supports as facial expressions and gestures simultaneously.

    Variety and flexibility

    - Movies can also act as a springboard for follow-up tasks such as discussions,

debates on social issues, role plays, reconstructing a dialogue or summarising.
