Description

Get the digital version, HERE. This is a fun way for 1st graders to practice solving word problems in a unique way. Kids start reading at the beginning of the book, solve the problems, and go where the book tells them to go! If they get the wrong answer, they will have a 'stopper' that will tell them to go back to where they were working, and TRY AGAIN!

I have followed the 1st grade Common Core Standards and have used a simpler vocabulary than I do in my math mysteries for the upper grades. You may want to read this with a small group or maybe even send it home as a fun parent-child activity.

This mystery includes these skills:

*Time to the nearest half hour

*Addition facts

*Adding 10s

*Measuring to the inch

*Comparing lengths of objects

*Counting by 1s

*Recording info on a bar graph

*Place value (tens and ones)

*Greater and less than

There are a total of 10-word problems included in this story.

I use these mysteries at my math stations during guided math. I am sure your kids will love this Valentine-themed math mystery book as much as mine do! What will the next mystery bring?

Thanks!

Hilary
