    FAQ: COMMON QUESTIONS ANSWERED

QUESTION: What kind of lesson ideas are included?

ANSWER: Each unit has 4-7 lessons, all of which include: Whole group lesson guide, Thinking Questions to prompt deeper thinking, Partner Activity Cards, Math Journal activities, Materials List, Printable Math Centers suggestions, Independent Practice printable workbook pages (differentiated versions to choose from), and assessment guides.

QUESTION: Do I have to use every page of the workbook?

ANSWER: No. You can pick and choose the page formats that you prefer. You can also choose between different levels to differentiate your teaching on pages where this is possible. In each workbook, concepts are introduced in a simple way, and then become more complex as the unit progresses. Also included are cut/sort pages for interactive learning.

QUESTION: What kind of math centers are included?

ANSWER: Each unit includes 5-10 printable math centres. There is a mixture of familiar repeated activities with new focus, and new activities to keep things engaging for students. Tasks include: sorting, matching question and answer, multiple choice, true/false, write and wipe with dry erase markers.

QUESTION: Are there reference posters included?

ANSWER: Yes! Many of the units include several reference posters. For example, there are posters to explain math facts, visual reference for terms or shapes, as well as posters that explain math rules visually. These are perfect for introducing concepts, or for setting up a “math corner” where students can “be the teacher” by reviewing all the concepts taught to date.

    QUESTION: What about assessment?

ANSWER: There are 2-4 pages/versions of assessment pages to use at the end of each unit. You can use the different versions with students sitting near each other to ensure that you have authentic assessment. The pages are similar in format and difficulty, but use different numbers.

QUESTION: What do you mean by "Self-checking"?

ANSWER: On some page formats, the answers are located at the bottom of the page, or around the frame. In this way, students find and color their answers to check their work. This alerts students to their own mistakes, and encourages problem-solving if they don't see their answer on the page. This also saves the teacher so much time, as students have essentially corrected their own work rather than handing it in to you with careless errors.

QUESTION: What do you mean my "Peer-checking"?

ANSWER: Many pages have a spot at the bottom where students must get a peer to sign their name after checking over the work. Students enjoy this chance to "be the teacher", and it also holds students accountable for their work because they know it will be peer checked before they are done. Another wonderful aspect of this feature is the organic discussions that occur during the peer checking process; students are prompted for deeper discussion of the concept and peer-teaching is common.
