    7 Units for the ENTIRE Year!! This unit meets Common Core Standards.

    This 1st Grade Health BUNDLE for the ENTIRE Year is packed with activities and information to teach 1st grade health that align with common core standards. These units can be taught out of order. They are only numbered for your convenience. At the end of each unit, there is an assessment to test students’ understanding.

    In the Personal Health unit 1, students will identify daily health habits. Included in this 1st Grade Health Unit are the following:

    • Students will identify what is a physical activity and draw themselves being active.
    • They will complete a crossword puzzle with healthy fruit words.
    • Students will choose between healthy and unhealthy activities.
    • They will learn about emotions and how it is important to feel those emotions as they will draw emotions and do an activity with classmates.
    • Lastly, there is an assessment to check for understanding along with an answer key.

    In the Growth and Development unit 2, students will identify daily health habits. Included in this 1st Grade Health Unit are the following:

    • Students will study the emotions kids feel and how they show emotions through physical characteristics, and they will match physical characteristics to the correct emotion.
    • Students will also draw emotions and discuss as a class how it may be difficult to tell how a person is feeling.
    • Students will also learn about the different physical and emotional characteristics we all have as they compare these physical characteristics with others in the class.
    • Lastly, there is an assessment to check for understanding.

    In the Nutrition and Physical Activity unit 3, students will identify daily health habits. Included in this 1st Grade Health unit are the following:

    • Students will categorize a variety of food into the 5 food groups.
    • They will draw healthy dinner foods that would be included in the 5 food groups.
    • They will identify physical words and physical activities and understand the importance of being physically active.
    • Students will cut, sort, and paste, physical activities and healthy food choices vs. inactive activities and unhealthy foods.
    • Students will cut, sort, and paste, physical activities done during a family vacation vs. physical activities at school and how to be more active in general.
    • Lastly, there is an assessment to check for understanding.

    In the Substance Use and Abuse unit 4, students will identify daily healthy habits. Included in this 1st Grade Health Unit:

    • Students will identify items in a household as safe or unsafe.
    • They will color helpful adults and friends and not color unhelpful people. This will help them identify people who are hurtful vs. helpful.
    • Students will identify adults who can give them medication. They will do this with a complete the word from letters in a letter bank.
    • As a whole group, they will roleplay how to just say no in harmful situations.
    • Lastly, there is an assessment to check for understanding.

    In the Injury / Violence Prevention and Safety unit 5, students will identify daily healthy habits. Included in this 1st grade Health Unit:

    • Students will recite and write their full name, address, phone number and names of parents or guardians in case they are ever lost.
    • They will identify when to call 911 for an emergency and when a situation is not an emergency.
    • Students will describe and draw themselves showing safe practices in the community, on a bike, and on a playground.
    • Students will also identify who is a trusted adult and understand "Stranger Danger" as they answer questions.
    • Last, students will identify what is bullying and what to do if they are bullied or see someone bullied.
    • At the end of this unit there is an assessment to check for understanding.

    In the prevention / control of disease unit 6, students will identify daily healthy habits. Included in this 1st Grade Health Unit:

    • Students will learn how germs make them sick and how to avoid having germs on their hands by washing them properly and how to sneeze into their elbow.
    • Students will also understand the role of doctors and dentists and how they help us to be healthy with the different instruments that they use.
    • Students will learn the importance of communicating their symptoms when sick with an adult or a health care professional.
    • There is a wordsearch related to dental vocabulary words.
    • Students will learn about the Coronavirus: how it started, how it spreads, and how to keep yourself and your family safe from this and other viruses.
    • Lastly, there is an assessment to check for understanding.

    In the Environmental / Consumer Health unit 7, students will identify daily healthy habits. Included in this 1st Grade Health Unit:

    • Students will learn about sun damage and how to protect yourself from those damaging rays by dressing a person in protective hats, sunglasses, etc.
    • Students will also learn about community health workers and cut and paste the names of those community workers.
    • They will also learn about slogans such as, "Give a Hoot, Don't Pollute" and the meaning of these safety slogans.
    • At the end of the unit, there is an assessment to check for understanding.
