Packet Rationale

The author uses the writing technique of taking a ‘small moment’ from every day life as a basis for the short story written on a first grade level. Students may have the same experiences as the author depending upon where they live or even vacations that they have taken with their families. The resulting reading comprehension packet is based upon the Common Core Standards that most of the states in America have adopted in our current national literacy movement. The packet includes 4 standards in reading, 3 standards in language, 2 standards in writing and 4 standards in math interwoven through the ocean/beach theme. Vocabulary cards for display, for study or for games are also included for your convenience.
