What educators are saying

My grade 7s loved getting into character and acting out the scenes. With the scripts they could focus on creativity and imagination with their acting because the words were already there.

Description

This packet includes 15 one page reader's theatre scripts to help support and open up honest discussions in 4th-6th grade classrooms about using good character and making smart choices. Each script allows for four readers.

Topics include:

"Trust Me!" (Trustworthiness)

"Respect Yourself and Others" (Respect)

"Be Responsible!" (Responsibility)

"That's Not Fair!" (Fairness)

"We Care!" (Caring)

"Citizenship"

"Let's All Get Along!" (Cooperation)

"It Takes Courage!" (Courage)

"I Forgive You!" (Forgiveness)

"I Hear You!" (Empathy)

"I Can Do It By Myself!" (Self-Discipline)

"One Day at a Time" (Patience)

"Never Give Up!" (Perseverance)

"It's Okay to Be Different!" (Tolerance)

"Let's Help Out!" (Helpfulness)

Here is a brief excerpt from "Respect Yourself and Others" Reader's Theatre Script:

Reader 1 – Name calling hurts.

Reader 2 – When someone calls me a mean name, I feel bad about myself.

Reader 3 – Do you like for people to call you mean names?

Reader 4 – I don’t care.

ALL – Yes you do!

Reader 1 – Always treat other people the way you would like to be treated.

Reader 2 – That’s how you get along.

Reader 3 – Don’t put yourself down either.

Reader 4 – The most important things you say are the things you say to yourself.

Suggested Use: Print four copies of each script onto cardstock (for durability over time). Place each script into a plastic sleeve, then place the scripts into a binder with dividers for each topic. Now they easily accessible from year to year! Use the scripts at the beginning of the year when you're teaching rules and procedures, and revisit the scripts when a situation calls for a particular topic. Give students a chance to turn and talk about the subject, and express their thoughts aloud.
