Description

Looking for fun and engaging reading activities to celebrate the 100th day of school? Look no further than THE 100th DAY COOKIE CRISIS.

On the 100th day of school, a sneaky thief snuck into the classroom and stole the 100th Day Cookies. The delicious treats were intended to celebrate this special milestone, but now it’s up to all of you to catch the culprit and recover the stolen treats.

To complete the mystery of the missing 100th Day Cookies your students will work in small groups, use their detective notes, and solve language tasks to catch the culprit and recover the stolen treats.

Clue #1 (shades of meaning) – Words have different “shades.” Instead of saying something is ugly, you might say hideous! Sort the cards to the correct word group. Whoever has the most words is NOT the cookie thief.

Clue #2 (vowel sounds) – Each word has a different vowel sound. Sort the words to the correct suspect. Whoever has the most words did NOT steal the cookies!

Clue #3 (abc order puzzle) – The puzzle shows a suspect who did NOT take the cookies! Work with your team to put the pieces together correctly. Hint: The words will help you solve the puzzle!

Clue #4 (Sequence of Events) – Read the text to learn how to make a 100th Day Cookie Treat. Whoever has the steps in the correct order is NOT the cookie thief.

Clue #5 (facts and opinions) – Learn all about Life 100 years ago! Read the text. Each suspect has a detail from the text. Are they facts or opinions? Whoever has the opinion is NOT the cookie thief.

After unraveling the mystery, you might want to let your students follow the instructions from the "How to Make a 100th Day Cookie Treat" passage to make a simple but tasty cookie treat.
