Description

This 100th day of school writing prompts resource includes 15 themed picture prompts to get students thinking and writing about their school experiences and other "100" themed concepts. There are 5 writing prompts for each of the following categories: opinion writing, informative/explanatory writing, and narrative writing.

We have also included mini versions of each writing prompt that can easily be pasted into an interactive notebook or writing journal and completed therein. Additionally, there is a cover page that can be colored by the students and stapled to their completed writing prompts.

Opinion Writing Prompts

  • Why is the 100th day of school celebrated?
  • What would be the best way to celebrate finishing 100 days of school?
  • What do you think needs to be invented in the next 100 days?
  • Do you like to play games where the first person to reach 100, wins? Tell about the game.
  • Do you think 100 is an important number? Why or why not?

Informative/Explanatory Writing Prompts

  • Do you say, “Just a minute”? Explain what you would do with 100 minutes of free time at school.
  • Explain how you are now 100 days smarter than you were at the beginning of the school year.
  • Think of 100 things to say about yourself to show who you are and what you like to do. Share some of your ideas.
  • If you had $100 to spend in order to make someone’s life better, how would you spend it?
  • What could you do with 100 ounces of water? Think of three uses and write to describe them.

Narrative

  • What will the world be like when you are 100 years old? What do you think will be different?
  • If you could have 100 of anything, what would you choose? Write to tell of your choice.
  • Imagine a day in the life of a child 100 years ago. Write to tell how that child’s day was different from your day.
  • Imagine you are 100 feet under the surface of the ocean. Write to tell of this underwater world.
  • Write to tell about what you collect and why. Would 100 items be just right for your collection? Explain.
