I teach this unit as a Penmanship and Vocabulary unit for my First Graders. They love learning about Civil Rights and Martin Luther King, Jr. Each day for nine days I introduce a word, we write it, we clap its syllables, we write its definition, and we write then listen to a story that exemplifies that word.
