These beautiful butterfly sculptures are inspired by folk art butterflies created by a family in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. Students learn about their work, the important role butterflies have played in their culture, and how to make a butterfly sculpture. Ours are created with recycled cardboard, aluminum foil, plaster gauze, and paint. We add color with Jazz Gloss tempera paints (not regular tempera), and you could also use acrylics. The sculptures are about the size of large butterflies
