Students create their own avatar online and write a reflection piece to accompany the reading of the novel Ready Player One by Ernest Cline.We have 90 minute blocks and this took the entire time. They were able to print all avatars in color and type and print their reflections. Only 2-3 students did not finish in the 90 minute block and they were required to finish the writing portion for homework. Writing can be daunting, so I developed this Journal/Paragraph Organizer. It pairs well with a writing toolkit, brainstorming organizers, and word banks. For students that struggle with navigating prompts, I utilize this as a picture journal response. For example, search for a funny animal picture then progressively add more composite images (ie: animal and kid, two kids with expressive faces, etc...). This resource can be implemented in any academic setting to build foundational writing skills
