This flipchart is one I use to introduce the concept/idea of black history month to my students. It begins with a song about Martin Luther King, then has picture examples of the words past and present to help my kids understand what we mean when we say the "past". Then there are pages of examples of black athletes, musicians, actors, etc. At the end there is a video "black history alphabet" I hope this simplified way of introducing black history helps your class as much as it helped mine.

Each page has a ruler and an object already placed on it as well as a line to reference where the child should be looking to find out how long it is.
