Places in the community ... where questions for children
This lesson is part of my community helpers unit. On each page there is a question such as where do you go to pray? a visual cue like a woman praying, and 3 choices of locations to choose from. When the child selects the correct answer it says the models the words for the location.

This is an interactive lesson that I use once I have covered basic community helpers and what they use. In this activity is asks a question like "what do firemen drive to a fire?" It provides a visual cue like a picture of a fireman, and then choices in a field of 3. When the child selects the correct choice it models that language like "a firetruck".

Friends Adapted Book By Eric Carle
This is another classic book by Eric Carle, Friends. It has been adapted with the book being able to read for you as you cllick on each of these colorful pages as it teaches about social skills in its own way. You can interactively take turns up at the smartboard through this Smartnotebook application. It summarizes as you read to allow for easier comprehension. Have fun learning and teaching.

All about community helpers including doctors and firefighters
This is an introductory lesson to community helpers. There is a song about helpers and pictures of 11 different helpers and a brief description of what they do. Then the last section is a question format such as "who helps put out fires" and your children should select the correct picture (with a reinforcing sound for choosing correctly).

Animal homes and food
This is a great introduction to where animals live and sleep and what they eat. It includes pages for the children to select which animals live on the farm, they can click the animal and see what it eats, etc. Its a great simplistic activity to introduce these concepts to kids.

Introduction to same vs different
This is an introductory lesson to the concept of things that are the same vs different. It's designed to be teacher directed while you discuss things that "match" or are the same. At the end there are a series of questions in which the children can select the one that is different.

The Gingerbread Man
This is an adapted classic book, "The Gingerbread Man." Each book is adapted with mayor johnson story lines to go with each of the colorful and repetitive pages to click on and it will read back as you read and are prompted to click on the page along with soft background music. You will be able to engage independently and based on your individual functioning level to either read the lines both with regular print with and without pictures. Enjoy the book!

Animal characteristics and body parts flipchart
This is an introduction to animals. I use this chart to discuss basic animal body parts (head, different amounts of legs, beaks, etc) and descriptor words like big, small, striped, etc. This chart also includes a song about animals and their sounds.

Categories and Basic Negation Activity
My kiddos always have a hard time with sorting by category and finding items that are similar but not the same, so I created tons of pages for practice. This chart has categories from colors, food, transportation, and clothing. On each page there are things that belong with the named category and things that don't and a direction such as "circle all the things that are red" or "put an X on the things that are not hats"

Different locations or parts of the community language circle
This is one of my language activities for preschoolers as an introduction to the different parts of the community like churches, grocery stores, and libraries. It has 2 related songs and several locations with pictures of what these places look like. There are not any opportunities for children to come up and actually interact with the board in this lesson, but I've done some great sorting activities with other materials once I use this to introduce the lesson.

Different ways that animals move/ animal actions
This is a cute language lesson into animal movements such as hopping, swimming, etc. It includes pictures of real animals as well as a song about animal movements.

Action words classroom language activity
This activity is great practice for early learners using action words. The first few slides are simple animated (moving) pictures of characters doing things like clapping and throwing. The next set of pictures has children choosing from a field of two which one is the correct answer. When they choose the correct response there is a reinforcing "YAY" sound.

All about me flipchart
This is a great chart for classroom introductions. It starts with the sesame street song "What I am" and then you go through the chart as a class. You have to click on the video to start the song. Everywhere that you see a portrait box you add the child's face. I also usually place a mirror somewhere close by when you are asking them about what they look like. Its a great interactive language lesson.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Adapted By Eric Carle
A small caterpillar is so hungry and eats everything in sight until it gets a stomach ache. Once he ate the leaf it helps him become a beautiful butterfly. Have fun clicking on both the words and sentences as you enjoy this classic interactive hands on experience taking turns up at the smatboard or on you device independently.
