After a year of working with students as they design object in TinkerCAD, I found that they have difficulty visualizing in mm and cm scale. Students also loose track of the size of the design as they zoom in & out of the scale of the screen. This 190 mm x 250 mm printable square is great for visualizing the size of larger designs for CNC & 3D printing. The color scale helps with visualizing the size of cm. The coins are to scale (Quarter is 24.26 mm, Penny is 19.05 mm, Dime is 17.91 mm)

Solar Heater Design Project

This design project, which covers 5th grade math and science standards, encourages students to create a box that will be the most efficient at heating up water. All students will need to receive the same clear plastic water container, but then design a box to go around it. They may design any size, and then use materials for the inside or the outside of the box that they believe will create the best environment for maximizing the sun’s energy to heat water. After building and designing the box,

Many 3D CAD programs use mm as the default metric measurement. Unfortunately many students have issues visualizing objects in the mm scale. This set of printable squares can help your students see the final size of their 3D print. This will keep objects within scale and size of most desktop 3D printers. This set of rulers & squares will help your students keep the size of their design in perspective. This set of four 80 mm squares is in mm units. It also includes a color visual scale to help

Importance of learning science

Learning science is particularly important for students as it equips them with the essential knowledge and skills to make sense of the world around them. Science education is not just about memorizing facts. It fosters critical thinking, inquiry, and problem-solving abilities. These skills are not only useful in school but also in everyday life beyond the classroom.

Benefits of learning science

Learning science offers many benefits to students both in school and beyond. In fact, it helps students:

  • Question the world around them and seek evidence-based explanations
  • Cultivate their ability to observe, experiment, and analyze data
  • Nurture a sense of curiosity, awe, and wonder about the natural world
  • Understand natural phenomena and the laws that govern the universe

With a solid foundation in science, teachers can help empower students to think critically, solve problems, make informed decisions, and engage with the world around them in meaningful ways.

Teaching with science resources

One of the best parts about science class is all of the possibilities for hands-on, collaborative learning! Think: labs, experiments, inquiry-based activities, and design challenges. These activities encourage students to explore scientific concepts by observing, asking questions, and conducting investigations. Additionally, with small group centers, students can engage in group experiments, discussions, and projects that require them to collaborate, share ideas, and solve problems together.
