Step-by-Step Scratch Programming MEAN

Use with the whole class OR as an extension/enrichment activity for that kid that always finishes before everybody else and needs an extra challenge to keep them out of your hair. The user can follow these instructions step-by-step to build a program that calculates the mean of 8 numbers a user enters. Then there are follow-up challenges to "level-up" making the program more useful and/or extending into using similar ideas to calculate M.A.D.Note: some familiarity with scratch programming is assu

Cedar Point (Rollercoaster) Statistics

In this activity, students will research data for the speed, height and duration of rollercoasters. After retrieving this data, students will find the mean, median, range, minimum and maximum values of the data. How to find those calculations is also provided on the document. An extension could be to have students graph the data they collected. I have used this for a sub day in my engineering classes a few times. The example I provided uses coasters from Cedar Point because that park is located n

If you are looking for a 2-3 day lesson on Potential and Kinetic Energy, here is the resource for you! Students will make a Slingshot following the directions from PBS Kids Design Squad. They will launch their slingshots and record their data in the lab sheet provided. Students can then modify their slingshots to try to launch the ping pong ball even further.
