This is a 7 page booklet that features two journal entries on each page. The first is a title page, so there are 12 writing prompts. Are you frustrated with your student's lack of descriptive writing. This activity is a great introduction to the concept of showing not telling in writing. On each of the twelve pages, students have an opportunity to sketch a picture related to an emotion. At the bottom of each page, they should describe the emotion without using the actual word (e.g. my heart was racing, my jaw dropped, and etc.)

I created and printed this plot chart onto 11 by 17 paper for my class this year in order to help them plan their narrative stories before writing. It worked wonders! Each step on the plot chart has clear instructions for each part of the story. (Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action, and Resolution) I let my students write notes of their plans all over these and their stories have stayed right on track once they began writing!
