Discussion Questions per Chapter for Novel "Because of Winn-Dixie"
Here is a list of focus questions to discuss for each chapter of the novel "Because of Winn-Dixie." They helped guide my class discussions after each chapter. First, I would have students retell what happened in the chapter. Then, I would read the question written on the board and have students write their answers in their notebooks. I created this story elements graphic organizer with various colors to help students visualize the different elements. This story graphic organizer includes a "refrain" sections because it is specifically for stories that include a refrain like the "The Gingerbread Man" or "The Three Little Pigs." I have a story elements anchor chart to match it on my page as well.

Using the South Carolina Reading Literacy Standards for grades k-5th, I created a BINGO board for activities students can complete during summer vacation. You can edit it to change it from returning to the library, to say a classroom teacher or whomever you'd like the forms returned to. The Secret Garden Novel Study
This is a full 6 week novel study plan for the book "The Secret Garden." The students work on it throughout the week and then we meet for a literature circle meeting to ask our discussion questions once a week. If you don't use Google Classroom for the weekly vlog summary, I would suggest that you change it to a typed up/written out summary. Enjoy!

“Hatchet” Fun Comprehension Activity- End of Year
This is a great end of year activity after reading the story “Hatchet” by Gary Paulson. Directions and a recording sheet for students are included, as well as an answer key. Simply print the different question cards, and a copy of the recording sheet for each student. Cards can be posted around the room and used as a scoot, or students can work together during small group time. No planning needed!
