BUNDLE Grade 9/10 Physics & Chemistry Capstone Investigation

This project is the culmination of a year long course studying chemistry and physics. Students will write their own research questions, create a method, perform an experiment and collect data, analyze their data and evaluate the validity of their conclusion. Overview:This document is meant to introduce the project and give some parameters for the types of investigations students can choose from. While it is possible to allow students to choose any topic they wish, I found it helpful to narrow

Chemistry Mountain, Steps 7-14 (periodic table, trends, isotopes + more!)

The Chemistry Mountain allows students to learn fundamental chemistry concepts, mastering them individually at their own paces. Each step on the chemistry mountain is a discrete skill or concept (like using significant figures appropriately, naming simple ionic compounds, or converting between moles and mass). To begin the step, a student takes a self-checking quiz (via Google Forms). If a student evidences mastery on the quiz, she moves on to the next step. If a student doesn't evidence mas

Students will match up the name of an acid/base to its formula. They should have a working knowledge of how to name an acid and base. This is a great tool for informal assessment or review before a test.

4 questions SOL review/ check for understanding at the end of class, this is for after you have taught the M3&R, mass/reading mass, metric conversion, and volume. I used this at the end of class a few days before the unit 1 test.

The Great Energy Scavenger Hunt

The Energy Scavenger Hunt is a perfect alternative to the traditional “test” at the end of the energy unit. For this activity, students scour through magazines to search for pictures that fit the categories listed on the treasure map. The pictures are cut from a magazine and glued to a base paper, and then points are awarded for each picture on a scale of 1-5. This is an excellent cooperative learning activity and works best with small groups of two to four students. The format of the activi

The Periodic Table Test is a great way to test your students on their ability to remember the symbols of the elements. Having your students study the symbols and then giving them this test is a great way to prepare them before moving on to more advanced chemistry concepts such as bonding, nomenclature, polyatomic ions, etc. Students will be tested on 90 different element (worth 1 point each) and there are two questions (5 points each) for a total of 100 points. *This periodic table test work
