Strike for Change! Reform Movement Activity
This activity was a bonus activity for my 8th grade US History students. We had just finished a unit on Reform, leading up to the causes of the Civil War. We read a selection from the novel-in-verse, Audacity. Melanie Crowder's book offers a first person, narrative poem point of view into Clara Lemlich's experience in the early days of worker reform. We also watch the video of picture book Brave Girl, written by Michelle Markel. It highlights Clara as well, with beautiful illustrations. Student
