How I Teach Trigonometry Ratios Part 1
This is a 25 page Smartboard file explaining how to establish the ratios needed to do basic trigonometry. The lesson starts out giving definitions for hypotenuse, opposite, and adjacent. This is a 50 page Smartboard lesson that builds on my part 1 lesson. The lesson starts by explaining the words Sine, Cosine, and Tangent. Next comes definitions and an explanation of how to find the side measurements. Next the lesson teaches how to find an angle. There are plenty of practice pages for both types and they include answers.

Choosing the Correct Trig Tool - "Whose Law is it Anyway?"
This gameshow style activity provides great practice for students to recognize the criteria necessitating each trigonometry tool (right and oblique). Students are shown a triangle with some sides and angles given, and they must either:
1) Decide what the most appropriate trig tool would be to determine the unknown (side or angle), or conclude that there is not enough information given to solve it. Or,
2) Decide which trig tool could NOT be used to solve the triangle. (This type of problem

Solving Right Triangle Activity
If a student steals a cookie...
Directions: Place students into 5 - 6 groups. In case you want, I included a random group generator into the SMART file for you. Students solve the problems on a whiteboard/paper. If the team gets it right, send one person from the group up to the board to pop open a box to see what they get...but be careful! There are many game changers in there just for you...and them! The GRAY X's help you keep track of which "cookie jars" you have answers.

Introduction to Basic Trigonometry Activities for the Smart Board
Students are much more successful with solving basic introductory trigonometry problems when they spend time learning opposite, adjacent, and hypotenuse and learning how to decide what trigonometric ratio to use when. This SMART Board notebook activity provides students the opportunity to practice this vocabulary. It also provides a 'pull tab' with answers. The activity ends with a little trigonometry comic relief.

Giza Pyramid introduction to Volumes of Pyramids
Students approximate the volume of The Great Pyramid of Giza by calculating the volume of each layer. This requires finding the angle of elevation then using similar right triangles to approximate the width of each step so they can find the width of each layer. Introduction to Argument Writing
Students learn the difference between a statement and a claim. They then drag sentences to the correct column- statement or claim. My students then had a debate and learned how those parts of the debate fit into the outline of argument writing.

This is a review that covers Pythagorean theorem, 30-60-90 triangles, 45-45-90 triangles, trigonometric ratios, and angles of elevation/depression.
