Prehistory - Archaeology (How Do We Know What We Know?)
Students will rotate through stations with what might appear at first glance to be random artifacts. Each station has story behind it that connects the items to a story. For example, one is from a teenage sleepover where they were playing video games all night, drank a lot of soda and made a mess. You can set this simulation up in your classroom and have students rotate through each area, or, you can buy some paint sticks and string, and set up archaeological “dig sites” outside (see pic below).

Fossils Scavenger Hunt
A fun student centered activity where students go on a scavenger hunt to answer a questionnaire. They will have to locate clue cards hidden around the room, read the clue cards and decide what information can be used to answer questions. Not only will they have to decide what information to use, but the information they don't use is still read and absorbed by the students, allowing them to learn even more about the topic than just what is on their questionnaires.

Hominid Skull Analysis
A fantastic lab for evolution! To me, evolution is a difficult unit for students to have real lab experiences. You can study natural selection through several investigations, but few allow us to take evidence on patterns found in the past.
