For miniature unit archaeology done in a shoebox-shaped container, this form allows students to record their findings on a single-layer model excavation and make hypotheses regarding what they've found. I use playground sand, tiny plastic skeletons, and craft materials to create the model excavations. A carefully-prepared class can complete an excavation in a single 45-minute period, but I recommend splitting the lesson over two periods.
