This excel sheet is something I created to help teachers in my building organize their data and growth for each student. It is easy to use and is adaptable for your classroom. The data I use for this comes from the MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) test and is based off of the fifth grade "goals". Amazing Growing Creature Measurement Lab
This activity includes cover, instructions, student page and a primary student page. Students use a growing creature (available at a Dollar store or on-line at Oriental Trading Company) to practice measuring length, weight, and area. The scientific process is incorporated as the students hypothesize how much it will grow each day. Literacy Connections are also included. Back to School Measurement.
This is a fun back to school project I like to do. Students measure themselves in centimeters and inches, then convert it to meters and feet at the beginning of the year then again at the end to see how much they've grown. At the end of the year they get to see how much they've grown over the school year!I usually cut a piece of string as tall as them then have them measure the string on a meter stick.
