Smartboard Activity. Students read words aloud and decide where to break each word into syllables and write it on paper or dry erase board. To check their work, they can then pull the words apart and sort the syllables using the chart on the smart board. 6 Levels move the students to longer and more difficult words. Teachers can use the lesson whole group or use as a self-checking center.

Students learning the -at word family can practice it by using this sorting activity. The students will place a word in either the "yes" or "no" box depending on if it is in the -at word family. If the student is correct, the word will fade away. If the student is incorrect, the word will bounce back.
