Acting Performance Rubric (Intro.)
Assessing a student's performance in class can be a tricky thing, but this rubric will help you do just that. Share this rubric with your students in advance and explain to them what you're going to be looking for. Upcycle Project
For this project, students will select a used artifact and remodel, reupholster, redesign, & recycle. The goal is to take something old or irrelevant and make it new and useful (or even more so). Students may choose any artifact to redesign. This project covers subjects such as theatre, stagecraft, technical theatre, visual art, 3D design, english, and math. Topics include Redesign, Recycling, and Fabrication.

You can show your students these as a model to get started for "The Yellow Wallpaper" Artistic Activity, and after the first time you assign it, you will have awesome examples of your own :) The students will then present their creations to the class in a short 1-2 minute presentation. Of course, if you do not have the time, you can always do away with the presentation aspect of the assignment.

This is an activity I use to introduce Romeo and Juliet. It includes a graphic organizer and instructions to annotate and respond to 3 classic love poems: "Sonnet 18" by Shakespeare, "Annabel Lee" by Edgar Allan Poe, and "i carry your heart" by e. e. cummings. Producing a Play Rubric
Do you all teach Arts and Humanities along with your ENG I courses? Do you throw in a Drama unit that could use some spicing up? Try this producing assignment after you have read a script in your classroom. Students will be taking on the task to actually make all of the decisions a producer would make! After they do, they will put their ideas into a presentation to try to "pitch" to the class. Have fun! :)

Creative Commercial Assignment
This is a fun resource for a group of students in an English, Drama or Speech class. Students will learn how to work together to brainstorm, write, rewrite, and present an original commercial for a product of their choice. They even have to come up with a jingle to close out the commercial! Although this is set for six students to work in a group, it is very easy to merge parts or enlarge parts if your class has smaller or larger groups. Feel free to ask me for suggestions!
