Assessing a student's performance in class can be a tricky thing, but this rubric will help you do just that. Share this rubric with your students in advance and explain to them what you're going to be looking for. It helps them, and you, know what your expectations are (but also gives you the flexibility to grade students according to their individual abilities and growth).

Active Listening Presentation Peer Feedback (Use for ANY Presentation/Speech!)

Personally, keeping students engaged while other students are giving presentations has always been both a concern and a struggle for me. This easy feedback form solves that probably with ZERO prep. This is a simple, step-by-step assignment for students to actively engage in providing feedback to their peers during presentation week.Students are asked to rate different aspects of the presentation on a scale of 1-4 (I love mastery grading!), and then provide specific details that celebrate the stu

From Electric English... These are the images I have posted of the wallpaper that I found on the web. You can show your students these as a model to get started for "The Yellow Wallpaper" Artistic Activity, and after the first time you assign it, you will have awesome examples of your own :) The students will then present their creations to the class in a short 1-2 minute presentation. Of course, if you do not have the time, you can always do away with the presentation aspect of the assignment.

Film Festival Advertising Project is a product that encapsulates both design and marketing, giving students an introduction into a simple advertising campaign. Students become “theater proprietors” and work to produce a plan that will draw attention to their business. The class will be responsible for three segments: a festival brochure, an advertising leaflet, and a self-playing slideshow. This task requires both digital and physical artifacts from the students. Love Poem Comparison and Analysis

This is an activity I use to introduce Romeo and Juliet. It includes a graphic organizer and instructions to annotate and respond to 3 classic love poems: "Sonnet 18" by Shakespeare, "Annabel Lee" by Edgar Allan Poe, and "i carry your heart" by e. e. cummings. The graphic organizer is designed for a class discussion comparing and contrasting the three poems.Copies of the former 2 are also included-- the Cummings poem is not in the public domain, so I cannot offer it for sale. It is uploaded as a

Do you all teach Arts and Humanities along with your ENG I courses? Do you throw in a Drama unit that could use some spicing up? Try this producing assignment after you have read a script in your classroom. Students will be taking on the task to actually make all of the decisions a producer would make! After they do, they will put their ideas into a presentation to try to "pitch" to the class. Have fun! :)

Creative Commercial Assignment

This is a fun resource for a group of students in an English, Drama or Speech class. Students will learn how to work together to brainstorm, write, rewrite, and present an original commercial for a product of their choice. They even have to come up with a jingle to close out the commercial! Although this is set for six students to work in a group, it is very easy to merge parts or enlarge parts if your class has smaller or larger groups. Feel free to ask me for suggestions!
