Build a Mini Golf Course: Learn Geometry Vocabulary with Real World Math Project

If your students are struggling to memorize and learn geometry vocabulary, this project will give them real life application, committing those tricky terms to memory! Once students design, draw and build their golf course, there is no need for geometry flashcards anymore, the experience leads to deep learning of the vocabulary. In this math project students design mini golf course holes on paper, buy supplies, and build their design as a model to help them memorize all that tricky geometry vocab

Build A Robot - Volume

This activity completely lines out how to create a robot using rectangular prisms. As students journey through each task, it will ask them to create designs using specific polygons we have studied in class, as well as calculate the volume by using the unit cubes as the measurements. This is fun mini-project students can complete in 2-3 class periods. It is an easy print and go project that can be easily used incorporated at any point in the year.An answer key for the volume portion of the activit

Guided Instruction: Project Idea/Concept: TSW collaborate to design and develop a new town using geometric concepts. You are a city planner. You have been asked to plan a new part of your city. You will first be asked to create a 2-D blueprint (map) of your plan. Next you will need to submit your plan to the city council (your teacher). Once approved you will build a 3-D model of your city using various geometric conceptsGEOMETRY: MAP DESIGNYour task is to design a map that includes several diff

Tiny Home Design Challenge

Students will use their design skills to create the most effective and creative tiny house. They will need an understanding of scale, area, perimeter, angles, surface area, line segments, fractions, decimals, and money. This project will lead them through the planning phases economically and by space before they create a shoebox house masterpiece.

I started using choice boards last year and LOVE them! I never gave my students the opportunity to be creative in my classroom. For years, it was notes, homework, and repeat until the test. These choice boards give students the ability to express themselves within their particular learning style. I have been so impressed with the results I get from my students. This choice board focuses on 2-D Geometry. Also included in this file are mini posters that describe each option on the choice board. I

This is an excellent real-world - hands-on math unit. Great for intervention time. It can easily be adapted to be easier or harder based on students' needs. The kids have so much fun doing this activity they don't even realize they are learning. I use recycled cardboard boxes from the lunchroom that they are getting rid of but you can easily buy cardboard at Walmart. This will easily take 1-2 weeks if done during intervention time.

Students will use prior knowledge of measuring, fractions, decimals, units, perimeter, area and volume and apply it to real-life situations involving rectangular prisms. The students will start off using small cubes to practice moving from one-dimension to 3-dimensions to get a better understanding of the the relationship between perimeter, area and volume. The students will end up using everyday items in our lives for enrichment of their understanding. I did this project in class using partners

A Dreamy Backyard

Students are asked to create their dream backyard. They must find the area and perimeter of all of the features they choose for their yard. This is a great activity for multiplying fractions because two of their features must include fraction dimensions. To extend the project, you could even have students write a detailed description of their backyard.
