I did not include a key for either of these card sorts. In many cases, it depends on the level of the anlaysis the students are thinking at. I am more interested in the text evidence and explanation they give for their sorting.This card sort includes 2 levels of determining direct versus indirect characterization. Level one is simple direct and indirect. Level 2 looks more specifically at how the characterization was developed: action, affect, thoughts, words...

Fun Animals with a cut out trophy every 10 books they read.
Every book read color in the animal and go down each column to the trophy. Every 10 books they get a small incentive, once they reach 100 offer a larger incentive. For older kids add an essay that has to be turned in after each book read.
