TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Asalamualaikum Warahmatullah Wabarakatuh Hello and welcome to Gambian Mommy, I am a homeschooling mommy from the Gambia blessed with two beautiful bubbly kids. Gambian Mommy was born out of my love for the Arabic Language and creative teaching. I started creating Arabic resources to promote creative teaching for Arabic reading! I hope and pray that you are able to benefit from my resources. Thank you for stopping by. Happy Learning xo Catherine Ngaima Sesay

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style includes an eclectic approach that is inspired mainly by Montessori philosophy and a bit of Charlotte Mason. I am experimenting with and trying to apply the synthetic/blended phonics approach to teaching Arabic reading to my kids and this approach is reflected in my resources.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Masters degree in International Health and currently a lecturer of Psychology at the University of the Gambia.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am a non-native Arabic speaker whose aim is to teach my kids to learn to read the Arabic language in order to be able to read the Qur'an. The resources that I make do not necessarily use modern everyday vocabulary used in the Arabic language, as much as some words used are common day-to-day vocabulary, some of the words are also tougher older words that are not used nowadays and some are Qur'anic (root) words. In our Arabic journey I do not discount any Arabic word, I am not too concerned about whether it's used frequently or not, so long as it is an Arabic word and most importantly, so long as it used in the Qur'an. Please keep this in mind before making any purchase especially if you're looking for Arabic resources with easy common words used in Modern Arabic.
