TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching for 23 years! I taught 5th grade for 5 years, 3rd grade for 1 year, and spent my remaining 12 years in 2nd grade. I have taught special education, gifted education, English language learners, reading support, general education.....all kinds of learners!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I like to keep kids engaged, busy, challenged or remediated as necessary. I believe in lots of guided practice to model and teach new topics and skills, as well as time for independent practice to learn by doing. It is also important to me for the kids to learn by having fun and participating in meaningful games and centers.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I was the Mechancsville Elementary School Teacher of the Year for the 2013-2014 school year.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I attended Varina High School in Richmond, Virginia (Class of 96) and Longwood University (Class of 2000).
