What educators are saying
Description
Teach students about persuasive and opinion writing with this engaging zoo animal and animal captivity writing activity. Students will first find out what a claim is, then read an article about animals in captivity. Then they will be faced with the goal of answering this question: Should animals be held in zoos? This persuasive/opinion writing piece is one that always captures students' attention and engages them from the minute you tell them the topic. Students will then use the persuasive writing / opinion writing graphic organizer to write down notes and plan their essay stating their own claim. Students will then begin to plan their writing where they will take a stand, making their own claim using specific details from the texts they read.

⭐ My students were very engaged using this resource. They could really relate to the text. I like how there was a worksheet for the students to form their opinions on, and then extensions for a writing piece/letter. At this point, I have purchased 3 separate "Making a Claim" files from this seller. I am regretting not buying the bundle - consider doing that!
⭐ This is an awesome resource! My students have loved engaging with it and it has really helped supported their curriculum knowledge and skill application. I highly recommend it to others!
⭐ I used this resource after our class visit to our local zoo. This was a great resource & it brought out a lot of great conversations with students and helped my students support their opinions with facts from the article. Thanks!
