What educators are saying

Love using this for argumentative writing. We read alongside the one and only Ivan. Students made great connections between the two readings.
This was a great resource to use to teach students persuasive writing. It really had my students thinking deeply about animals in captivity.

Description

Teach students about persuasive and opinion writing with this engaging zoo animal and animal captivity writing activity. Students will first find out what a claim is, then read an article about animals in captivity. Then they will be faced with the goal of answering this question: Should animals be held in zoos? This persuasive/opinion writing piece is one that always captures students' attention and engages them from the minute you tell them the topic. Students will then use the persuasive writing / opinion writing graphic organizer to write down notes and plan their essay stating their own claim. Students will then begin to plan their writing where they will take a stand, making their own claim using specific details from the texts they read.

My students were very engaged using this resource. They could really relate to the text. I like how there was a worksheet for the students to form their opinions on, and then extensions for a writing piece/letter. At this point, I have purchased 3 separate "Making a Claim" files from this seller. I am regretting not buying the bundle - consider doing that!

⭐ This is an awesome resource! My students have loved engaging with it and it has really helped supported their curriculum knowledge and skill application. I highly recommend it to others!

⭐ I used this resource after our class visit to our local zoo. This was a great resource & it brought out a lot of great conversations with students and helped my students support their opinions with facts from the article. Thanks!
