What educators are saying

My students love using this resource. The pages are plain and simple which assists in eliminating distractions
I bought these years ago and use them all the time. They are great for any grade level and help the kids stay organized and prepared for class. The large visuals also help kids who are new to English or struggle with reading skills.

Description

Do your students ask about supplies, directions, or where to sit even though you JUST gave directions?

It happens to ALL of us! Preventing that chaos is cake with these "You need" icons!

Displaying icons rather than relying solely on verbal directions allow for your students to become more independent in ensuring that they are prepared for lessons in your classroom. Providing visuals is also a great support for English Language Learners and students with Special Education accommodations. Supply Icons also save teachers a hefty slice of sanity because they eliminate the need to repeat, repeat, repeat directions and continuously answer questions about what supplies are needed!

Icon FAQ

Q: How do you get the letters on the board?

A: The letters in the cover photo, originally posted to my Instagram, are made from adhesive vinyl that I cut on my Silhouette Cameo. The ones included in the product are intended to be printed and then cut. You can stick them to your board with magnetic tape, Velcro, or regular Scotch tape!

Q: How do you prep the icons you use in your classroom?

A: I am a print-cut-laminate-cut girl! I like to know that when I prep my icons they will last me the entire year without fail. By printing on cardstock, cutting, and then laminating, it guarantees the thickest possible product! This is just my personal preference and they have held up for several years in my classroom while being regularly used by myself and students.

Q: Can I use my Cricut or Silhouette to cut out my icons?

A: Yes. While I LOVE my Silhouette dearly, I do cut my own icons out by hand and with a Fiskars personal paper slicer. The included files are not SVGs, but can still be cut out. Check out @cricutfortheclassroom on Instagram for help with cutting out the icons. She has done an excellent tutorial that will walk you through all of the necessary steps!

Q: How did you make the icons stick?

A: I am fortunate enough to have a magnetic dry erase board, so I used thin magnetic tape from Lakeshore Learning Store. It comes on a roll like regular tape and is more thin and flexible than your typical magnetic rolls. If your board is NOT magnetic, strips of Velcro are a great solution! You can also display the icons under a document camera or set them on a certain spot on your chalk rail. If none of these options are right for you but you have a projector in your classroom, try the Digital Icons!

Q: Where is the pocket from that holds all of your icons?

A: The pouch in the picture is from The Container Store. They are still for sale online (I've had mine for years and it has had many different uses) by searching "magnetic pouch." It is the medium size shown on the website!
