What educators are saying
Description
At the end of the year, following state tests, most teachers are looking for ways to continue teaching/reviewing the curriculum and keep students engaged until the last day!
The YOU BE THE TEACHER - Independent Research Project is a wonderful opportunity for students to think they are taking a break from learning to be the teacher, but in reality – they are learning more about a content area that interests them and teaching it to the class.
It is a great End of Year activity to be completed for homework, at school, or a combination of both!
Students choose a topic that you have covered this year that they wish you had discussed more. Maybe there is something that is still confusing to them that they want to try to learn better. They choose a topic that you have learned about and research NEW information about that topic. Afterwards, you will find a cool way to present it to your class.
I have even adapted this to challenge my gifted students to choose a standard/topic for the next grade level to give themselves a preview of an upcoming skill or topic.
This resource includes editable topic forms, so you can tailor it to fit your specific classroom needs. There are also pre-made topic forms for math, science, and social studies for grades 3-5. However, if you teach a higher grade, feel free to message me topics that are covered in your grade & I would love to update the product to make it more versatile for upper grades too.
There is also a digital version to be used with Google Slides!
There are 90 pages of resources to help this be an easy and fun activity to implement in your class!
Let your students enjoy the end of year and take reigns of their learning!
