Modeling writing is an important task. Writing is a fundamental skill that lays the foundation for successful communication, creative expression, and academic growth. By actively demonstrating the writing process, we can inspire and guide our young learners, fostering their imagination, confidence, and fluency.

I use writing journals in my classroom for additional writing practice. I have 12 months worth of writing journals in my store. These journals have been a valuable resource, and my students enjoy the daily writing prompts.

I take time to model the thinking and writing process to my students and share my expectations with them. However, like many students they do not apply always their best efforts. I created this visual rubric, so they understand what 4-star writing looks like. You could easily do this together with any piece of writing. I hang this up in the classroom and refer to it and remind students to work toward adding details to both their picture and writing.
