Description

Go from simple sentences to SOPHISTICATED sentences with this intensive sentence building boot camp. Perfect for review or ELA test prep! After completing the Simple Sentence Basic Training, students work through 5 station rotations to help them level-up their sentence writing: opening adjectives, delayed adjectives, appositives, introductory prepositional phrases, and opening adverbs.

Perfect for grades 4, 5, 6, and 7! You could have them work in small groups and travel from station to station. Or there is a digital option for you to assign individual google slides.

My preference is a mix of both digital and print: I have students work in groups using their chrome books. They travel to their first station, read the directions on the card, scan the QR code on the back for the one-page resource page, then read the resource together. They write their answers on a google slide deck. At the end of the boot camp, they turn them in for participation points, but they must revise ONE of their tasks to turn in for a grade. This amps up the accountability!

The more effort they put into their station tasks, the easier their graded revision assignment will be. Yay for motivation! :)

How this Helps You:

✅These are complete but QUICK lessons that tackle the high-priority component of each skill by providing students with "how to", examples, and meaningful tasks

✅You will no longer need to hunt for examples and graphics to pull together a lesson. Huge timesaver!

✅ Spread these out over two weeks or assign two stations per day for an intensive week of writing!

What you get:

  • 25 Google slides and a High-Resolution PDF version
  • The google slides are INTERACTIVE so students write in boxes (give to them in the normal "edit" mode so they can type on the slides)
  • With the high-res PDF, you could print the directions, resource pages, and response sheets for each station
  • The foldable directions card (use card stock!) has a QR code on the back for students who want their own digital version of the resource page
  • Use the station rotation slides to assign student groups

The slides include student-facing directions, resource page & response sheets for these sentence building skills:

✏️ Simple sentences

✏️ Opening adjectives

✏️ Delayed adjectives

✏️ Appositives

✏️ Introductory prepositional phrases

✏️ Opening adverbs

Each station uses mentor sentences from well-known novels and provides two rounds of sentence-building practice!

✏️Their writing will improve immediately! ✏️

Print some of the slides to post on your walls as a reminder throughout the year.

I specialize in writing and have created a 10-video professional development course. It shows you step-by-step how to engage your writers by teaching the six high-priority skills during workshops, while teaching essays during “blocks.” My students are now begging for writing time! Check out the training HERE.
