Writing Conclusions: Opinion, Informative, and Narrative Text

This Common Core mentor text writing unit teaches student 6 different ways to write conclusions and end their writing with variety. Each way is detailed out in a week long sequence that has students connect topic/story to concluding sentence and practice writing each type. Each way also has 3 mentor text samples for each type of introduction.

The conclusion writing includes:

Writing questions as conclusions

Writing summary statements as conclusions

Concluding with emotion/feeling statements

Concluding with a connection statement

Ending with a how statement

Concluding with a moral or a lesson

This teaches kids to write conclusions in a simple, explicit manner and gives them 6 ways to conclude a story/topic to add their writer's toolbox.
