What educators are saying

Great Resource! Thank you for sharing. My students enjoyed learning important aspects of history from these units.

Description

This activity has proven to be very powerful and insightful in my past World History classes.

In short, each student is given a different card with a unique soldier's specific scenario (8 scenarios total). If you have a class of 24 students, for example, then each scenario will be covered individually by three students per card. This is not intended to be a group assignment.

After the student reads his/her card, he/she will then research the information to their character's specific situation, and then compose a letter back to the person who originally wrote the letter. See the PREVIEW for one example.

Students will share their letters (or only a few total) in class after every letter has been written by every student.

The bold-titled pages labeled "Letters Home:" are the actual letters that were sent (i.e. primary source documents). You may read these to the class after the students have written their letters, at your own discretion.
