World Religions Performance Task

This is a summative assessment for a unit about world religions.

The task puts students in the position of cultural experts within the US State Department. They are asked to write a letter to a new diplomat to Singapore (a particularly religiously diverse country) briefing them on two of the religions they will encounter in their work.

This is a rigorous and authentic task that challenges students to write meaningfully about world religions. The writing sheets display the State Department seal and "classified" stamps, helping students enjoy this role play. The differentiated version supports students (ELLs, students with IEPS, etc.) by chunking their writing and providing them with sentence starters.
