Description
This resource teaches students how to format cells to display their data correctly. Anyone who’s used Excel has had the experience of entering data and having something strange happen to it. This is why students need to learn how to format cells in Excel.
In this activity, students learn to format:
- Numbers
- Currency
- Accounting
- Date
- Time
- Percentages
- Fractions
- Text
- Social Security numbers
Written student directions and a step-by-step student video are included to support all students, as well as How to Use This Resource help for the teacher.
Students should have some prior experience working with Excel. Many of my Excel spreadsheet resources are numbered (Excel Spreadsheet Resource 5) to show the learning sequence. This one is not because it can be used at any time during the spreadsheet unit, as long as students have some experience working with Excel.
I've always had new students entering class throughout the year. The step-by-step video is designed for beginner English Language Learners, Special Ed, and Low Readers, but you can also use it for those new students who come to your class later in the spreadsheet unit.
This activity can be used for Distance Learning or in the classroom. Post the directions and video on your LMS and go!
You can use this as a regular assignment in your class, as an activity for early finishers, or for Extra Credit. I did not include a rubric; I have never used this activity as a graded assignment.
Most students will complete this activity in one class.
This resource is included in my Differentiated Intro to Excel Bundle.
