Want to have your students engaged in your word study block? This no prep DIGITAL resource compliments the Words their Way™ program, but can also be used without it? This resource is what you have been looking for. It covers all 4 books - Alphabetic Spellers, Within Word Patterns, Syllables & Affixes and Derivational Relations- and is perfect for distance learning, literacy centers, daily 5 , small group, large group and more.
As more and more classrooms have access to iPads and Chromebooks, doing distance learning or going 1:1 - paper becomes less attractive. I really like the Words their Way™ program, however the one aspect I don’t particularly like is the amount of paper that it consumes. I wanted an alternative to paper without compromising the program.
This digital version of the word sorts is the result. Instructions for teachers are included in each PDF file for each ‘book’. This includes all the links for all word sorts:
60 word sorts from Alphabetic Spellers
59 word sorts from Within Word Patterns
58 word sorts from Syllables & Affixes Spellers
65 word sorts from Derivational Relations spellers
The easiest way to assign the sorts to your groups is within Google Classroom. This makes organization so much easier. You can assign a section of sorts, or just assign the weekly sort. All the students need to do in the activities is to click in the box and type their response or drag a picture and/or word into place.
This also works without Google Classroom. Simply assign via email or do as a group on the interactive whiteboard. Unfortunately this resource is not preloaded into Seesaw like the other resources, but you most certainly can do that yourself.

Can be used as part of your Literacy centers, use alongside your Words their Way™ program, use in small groups, or homework, or as extra practice. You can add this resource right into your weekly schedule of activities. Even if you don’t use Words their Way™, you can certainly use this resource for your word work activities in your classroom.
Each sort comprises 1-2 slides of reinforcement activities. As well, each pattern unit comes with a 1-2 slide assessment piece.

Words are not exactly the same as in the Words Their Way™ program. Other words have been chosen to help students scaffold their learning with each sort. This program compliments the Words Their Way™ program, it does not replace it.

Check these self-checking word work games to reinforce spelling patterns, which are highly engaging for students. There is a range of games to play for each main group of sorts. There are at least one or more games for each sort. Students can navigate between games with ease. These games are designed to reinforce each spelling pattern using a variety of words from the Words their Way™ sorts.
