What educators are saying

This was exactly what I'd been looking for, to help students with speech-language learning difficulties learn affixes as a way to help them figure out new words.

Description

Students will identify, remember, and use common affixes with this collection of illustrated word wall cards for prefixes and suffixes. I based this selection of affixes on the Common Core Standards for grades K-3 and on suggestions provided by several school districts.

This bundle is a mini version of my mega-bundle of illustrated roots and affixes that I've been using in my classroom for years: Greek & Latin Roots Word Wall. Each card displays an affix, it's English meaning, three or more examples, and an illustration to clarify it's meaning.

The prefixes and suffixes covered are...

  1. a- (on)
  2. bi-, du- (two)
  3. co-, col-, com-, con- (together)
  4. dis- (away, apart, negative)
  5. in-, il-, im-, ir- (not)
  6. mis- (wrongly)
  7. pre- (before or first)
  8. re- (back or again)
  9. syl-, sym-, syn-, sys- (same)
  10. un- (not, opposite of, without)
  11. -able (able to be; suitable for being; causing.)
  12. -ed (past tense)
  13. -er, -or (someone who)
  14. -er (more than)
  15. -est (the most)
  16. -ful (full of)
  17. -ing (action or process)
  18. -less (without)
  19. -ly (in a certain way)
  20. -ness (the state or condition of)
  21. -ous (full of)
  22. -s, -es (more than one)
  23. -y (made up of, full of)
