    Description

This is a bundle of two products that make up two weeks worth of word processing lessons. It can be used in elementary and middle school grades, and even with older students and adults who are novices at the use of word processing and drawing tools.

The Word Processing Wizardry Unit (Week One - The Basics) includes 5 complete lesson plans. It is an excellent sequential set of lessons to specifically teach different skills in word processing programs such as alignment, tab, copy, paste, cut, keycodes, special effects with fonts, etc. The focus of the unit is technology use as a tool, not as a toy.

The Word Processing Wizardry Unit (Week Two - Dealing with Drawing) includes 5 complete, sequential lesson plans that deal with teaching how to use drawing tools in word processing programs. Most of these lessons can be expanded over longer than 5 days if needed.

Vocabulary words are included for both units. A two part quiz (standard and performance) with an answer key is provided at the end of the second week. The focus of the drawing tool unit is technology use as a tool, not as a toy, but the lessons are geared towards being creative while learning.

Although the lessons are written for use with Microsoft Word, Mac version 14.2.1, they are easily adjusted to work for any word processor of any version, PC or Mac, including online Google Docs. Some differences in programs' drawing tools are addressed in the lessons.

The lessons can be given as a whole class-teacher directed lesson using a master/teacher computer projected on a screen or a transparency on an overhead. The teacher would have the students follow along step by step while the teacher is typing the lesson on the computer, or use a transparency on the overhead uncovering each line as the lesson progresses.

Students should have their own computer or laptop with which to work as these lessons do not work with partnering on a computer. It is important when learning specific computer skills that students are in control of their own computer.
