Description

Want to discuss diversity, kindness, stereotypes, middle school angst? The movie Wonder is an appealing avenue to all these. Or, watch and compare the movie to the book.

This collection of 10 activities has activities for before, during, and after viewing Wonder (2017), the movie based on RJ Palacio's novel. You can pick and choose which activities to use, and in what order. Activities are designed to appeal to a variety of learning styles and formats, and are differentiated to allow for maximum flexibility.

This collection includes a zip file with 2 files.

Wonder Movie Guide:

1. Sneak Peek- An preview activity for before students watch the movie.

2. Concentric Circle Chat- One-on-one activity with discussion questions about the movie's plot and director choices.

3. 12 Discussion cards- designed to spark independent paired or small group discussions and personal connections to the movie. Use them as handouts or cut them into cards. (All questions are different than those in activity 1.)

4. A New Scene- A writing and sketching activity.

5. Movie Review- Write a movie review. Now with a second version of this activity and a rubric for grading a full movie review. (Added March, 2018.)

6. Writing prompts- inspired by the movie's themes and events.

7. Movie vs Book- A graphic organizer to compare the movie to the book.

8. My Cubist Face- An art assignment. (Added March 14, 2018.)

9. Quiz- 2 page of multiple-choice questions and 1 page of short answer questions. With answer keys. (Added March 14, 2018.)

10. Clear and detailed directions for each activity, including a Table of Contents.

Wonder Viewing Guide:

Questions about what happens in the movie. 4 versions to choose from--short answer and multiple choice. Formatted to be used as handouts or with interactive notebooks. Use them to during viewing or as quizzes after. Answer keys provided.
