What educators are saying

These had all my students so frustrated in the BEST way. We loved them, and they kept asking for more. This was a great thing to use as morning work while streaming the Olympic coverage before our day began.
These were great to use as brain breaks and bell ringers during the Olympic games. Kids loved the challenge of them and learning more about the location, athletes and events. Thank you!

Description

Winter Olympics Fun for Middle Schoolers!

Looking for a way to incorporate the Winter Olympics into your class?

This packet of ten activities includes seven logic puzzles, one cryptogram, one grid matching puzzle, and one grid drawing sheet.

This product has been updated with the digital overlay feature, perfect to use with distance or virtual learning! It can be assigned to students in a Google Classroom. You can either use the digital overlay already created, or create your own! For more information, read here!

Visit our YouTube channel for examples of how to solve a cryptogram and a grid logic puzzle. (Not specific to these puzzles, but still helpful!)

That Rocks Teaching YouTube

The logic puzzles are based on fact- the first one uses athletes who have medaled in both the Summer and Winter Olympics; the second uses information about the top medal winners for the four times the United States has hosted; the third puzzle contains information about how many medals the USA has won in each event; the fourth is when new events debuted; the fifth is predictions for 2018, and it has been updated with another logic puzzle with predictions for the 2022 games. The cryptogram uses the 15 Winter Olympic events and a quote from one of the organizers of the modern day Olympics.

The puzzles vary in difficulty and are ready to print, copy, and use- no other prep necessary! An answer key and a few tips are included. These puzzles are great to use as a filler activity, with a substitute, or after a test is given, and yet they will still challenge your students’ minds. I hope you enjoy these activities!

BONUS: Want to have your kids write some? They can use the information in the logic puzzles to write a paragraph about the US hosting the Olympics, or how the number of medals in each winter event stacks up for the US, much like how you would have them respond to an infographic.

EXTRA VALUE: All our logic puzzle packets can be purchased in a bundle at a discounted rate- see the link here: Year Round Logic Puzzles Bundle ($19.50).

Also, the nonfiction text, “The Winter Games Began in Innsbruck, Austria” is included. This is a one-page text with a worksheet to practice common core reading skills.
