Description
Why Do I Have to Read This? Literacy Strategies to Engage Our Most Reluctant Learners - A Book Study
REQUIRED TEXT:
Tovani, C. (2021). Why Do I Have to Read This? Literacy Strategies to Engage Our Most Reluctant Students.
PURPOSE OF STUDY:
- Every teacher has taught the student who is reluctant to read and do the work. But have we stopped to investigate what is causing the student to be reluctant? Surely it’s not always because the student simply doesn’t care. Tovani explores how to engage every student, specifically the student who appears to simply “not care.” Tovani provides a framework to consider when developing plans that ensures all students are seen, heard, involved, and engaged in literacy. This book is easy to read and the strategies can be implemented tomorrow.
HOW TO USE:
- Implement in Professional Learning Community (PLC) team - share with teachers via Learning Management System (LMS).
- Independent Mini-PD: share with staff via LMS; provide PLC opportunity to reflect, plan, implement.
- Staff Professional Development/Faculty Workshop: approximately 30-45 min per module to discuss research and reflections.
