"What's the Same?" - Fun Visual Arts Game (K-8th) - Google Slideshow
- Google Slides™
Description
This slideshow presentation is an engaging and fun art room activity dubbed the "What's the Same?" game.
There is a statistic that the average person visiting an art museum only spends between 15-30 seconds looking at an art piece.
The "What's the Same?" game encourages students to hone their critical eye and intentionally observe art (little do they realize that is what they are doing!). The students with the best observational skills win!
The basic concept of the game is that students are shown a slide that features between 2-4 works of art, some famous and some obscure. The artworks on the slide are all very different (different mediums, artists, movements, genre, etc.), but there is one feature they all have in common! The goal is for the students to identify what that similarity is.
There are 6 rounds, one being a practice round at the beginning. The rounds vary in difficulty which increases as the presentation goes on, ranging from easy to medium to hard at the end. From personal experience, each round takes anywhere between 1-3 minutes. A fair estimate for how long this game will last (explaining the rules included) would be approximately 15-20 minutes. Fortunately, this game can also be ended at any time once a round is completed! So no need to worry if class ends a little early.
This game is best suited for students in elementary and middle (K-8th). There are also NO artworks featured that include any nudity or inappropriate themes/content.
