What is Geography? - Lesson Plan & Smartboard - Editable

This lesson is the first lesson of a Geography Unit in which students will begin by understanding the terms "geography" and "geographer." The unit culminates in a Document Based Project to answer: does geography determine the development of civilizations?

All lessons are planned using the Workshop Model. Students are encouraged to take notes using the "Cornell Notes" setup. This encourages students to strategically place notes, questions, answers, vocabulary, and lesson summary on a daily basis. In this lesson, you will find a teacher-led Mini-Lesson along with a student centered Work-Time. All lesson plans come with embedded checks for understanding to ensure student success, and leveled questions based on Costa's Levels of Questioning.
